The city of A Coruña has become the first city in the world to install a new generation RSD capable of uninterrupted vehicle emissions measurement at one of the main access points to the city. The dual-cabin RSD is located in the middle of the city, in full view of all citizens, monitoring the individual emissions of more than 2,000 vehicles per day, as they access Coruña city centre.
In addition to the above, the system is integrated into the city’s digital ecosystem for air quality management, together with environmental monitoring sensors, official air quality stations, noise sensors and local air quality models. Thus, this RSD provides unique information for mobility and air quality management in one of the most densely populated cities in Europe.
The system has been operating since September 2023, showing how profitable the long-term use of fixed RSDs is, with minimal maintenance, but providing unparalleled information for the authorities.
