Leading technology
Innovation drives everything we do. Through cutting-edge technology and groundbreaking research, we develop intelligent solutions that transform mobility and environmental monitoring.

Opus Remote Sensing invest +60% of its budget in R&D, which allows us to be always in the vanguard and to anticipate the future. We are continuously improving our products and leading innovative solutions to implement vehicle emissions remote sensing technology further.
Remote Sensing laboratory
We have a world unique laboratory dedicated to the development, certification and improvement of RSD technology. We combine state-of-the-art electronic and optical instrumentation to take the technology to the next level.
We are continuously improving the capabilities and performance of our technology, incorporating state-of-the-art materials and components to make our systems more accurate, robust and powerful. We investigate in latest sensors, spectrometers, electronics and optics to offer the best possible product.

Computer vision
We offer Opus Sensing Drive, to provide the camera with a new artificial intelligence capable of giving all kinds of vehicle parameters by visual analysis alone. We are working on new artificial vision solutions to capture more and better information from road traffic.

5G connectivity and C-ITS
We research new telecommunications technologies to provide our RSDs with new connectivity capabilities. Our 5G research has resulted in sensors that are hyper-connected to the infrastructure, capable of sending data in real time with minimal latency. Our research has resulted in the most digitized devices of their kind and the most data mining capabilities on the market. New research in V2X and I2V turns our RSDs into real-time information systems to inform the vehicle or driver about their emission levels.

Traffic & air quality modelling
We collaborate in different research and innovation projects in which RSD data are exploited to create new traffic and air quality models, including micro- and macroscopic simulation, dispersion modeling and inventory refinement.

Vehicle noise sensing
We collaborate with other technology partners to incorporate the remote measurement of the noise emitted by each vehicle with our RSD technology. In this way, we can identify the noisiest vehicles, as well as the dirtiest. This combined solution has been tested in Florence, Madrid and Barcelona.

Ship and rail emissions
Our core is the remote measurement of road traffic emissions, but we also offer solutions for the remote measurement of emissions from other means of transport, such as trains and ships.
On-going R&D projects
The UNICO SECTORIAL 5G and UNICO I+D 5G programs are funded by the European Union Recovery Fund – NextGenerationEU, as a common response at European level to face the economic, social and health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and whose purpose is to boost convergence, resilience and transformation in the European Union, through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism, Regulation (EU) 2021/241 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 12 February 2021. These are programs led by the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, and are aligned with the strategy to boost the deployment of 5G technology included in the Digital Spain 2026 agenda.
Each of these projects is dedicated to different experimental and demonstrative developments, but all of them place Opus remote sensing technologies at the center. The 5G represents a paradigm shift, as it will backbone the connected and ubiquitous use of artificial intelligence and the internet of things, enabling the use of sensors that collect and process information in real time, thanks to the low latency it provides. Thus, Opus RSE will develop new prototypes, communication architectures and systems integrated with different platforms and road sensors to revolutionize the way in which road transport emissions are measured and controlled.

GRANTED PROJECTS
The CRETA project – Control and Reduction of Traffic Emissions – will develop an active and dynamic transport and mobility management solution based on the control of the real emissions of each vehicle and the optimization of traffic flow through different disruptive technologies, with the aim of reducing transport emissions and protecting the environment.
It is a consortium project between MASMOVIL Group, ABERTIS, CELLNEX, INDRA, OPUS RSE, VINCES and ALPHA SYLTEC INGENIERIA. The CRETA project is based on the integration of 3 different technologies; 5G, remote measurement technology of traffic emissions, and advanced analytics and Artificial Intelligence, for the optimal management of traffic mobility and air quality.
Three pilots will be developed:
- Barcelona C32 highway.
- Madrid M30 and municipality of Alcobendas.
- Irun toll, in Gipuzkoa.
The HERMES5G+ project (Hyperconnectivity 5G+ in the control of Real Emissions for Efficient and Sustainable Mobility) is an industrial research project of the “Advanced 5G R&D Projects” subprogram. It consists of the creation of a real-time monitoring and decision-making system of the real emissions of each vehicle on high-capacity roads, based on 5G+ technologies, Edge Computing and disaggregated networks.
The project is based on the research and development of revolutionary sensorization, processing and communication systems capable of being integrated into road infrastructures for advanced “free-flow” analysis of road transport.
The main technologies included in the project start from a TRL 3 maturity level, which will be taken to TRL 6 at the end of the project.
The main objective of the project is to create an integrated 5G+ communication system capable of assigning each vehicle/driver a rating based on the actual emissions of the vehicle in order to make positive or negative discriminations.
The 5G CITYBRAIN project (Intelligent Orchestration of 5G Services for 21st Century Cities) consists of the creation of a new end-to-end solution for 21st century cities, based on an architecture capable of managing applications dynamically, focused on the intelligent management of the city, through three pillars: 5G, MEC nodes, Fog and Cloud and Network Slicing.
5G CityBrain will favor and accelerate the development of novel services, which take advantage of a distributed and dynamic architecture, to offer advanced services with strict requirements giving rise to promising use cases.
The intelligent solution contemplates the prediction of high pollution and traffic congestion areas, thanks to the interconnection of heterogeneous sensors in the Smart City.
The project is carried out in consortium between GRUPO MASMÓVIL, OPUS RSE and INNOVASUR. It includes the support of public administrations such as the City Council of Granada, the City Council of Jaén and the City Council of Úbeda.
The MABERIC project (On-board monitoring of actual vehicle emissions with an integrated, connected device) consists of the creation of a low-cost prototype capable of being installed in the exhaust pipe of any motor vehicle to monitor its actual emissions and connect via 5G+ with the vehicle’s control unit and roadside remote sensing devices to provide complete, real-time emissions analytics.
