The most advanced, widely used and verified sensor in the world to remotely measure vehicle exhaust emissions.

The basics of vehicle emission remote sensing

The RSD determines the exact concentrations of various pollutants present in the exhaust plume of each vehicle. The device also applies computer vision to analyze each vehicle characteristic and kinetics, measuring the vehicle’s speed and acceleration at the time of the emissions’ measurement.

Key features

The RSD measures the spectroscopic absorbance in IR and UV light of: CO - Carbon monoxide CO2 - Carbon dioxide NO - Nitrogen monoxide NO2 - Nitrogen dioxide HC - Hydrocarbons NH3 – Ammonia PM - Particulate matter The RSD analyze the emissions from tailpipe exhausts, as well as evaporative emissions caused by leaks. Each vehicle record consists of 100 measurements of the plume of gases in 0,5 seconds. Emissions are expressed in pollutant ratios to CO2, fuel-specific emissions or even travelled distance emissions (g/km) with appropriate assumptions.
Emissions from the car
The RSD includes a system for automatic and autonomous self-calibration. Internal sealed cells with known concentrations of multiple gases allows the regular verification of the system's accuracy (+/-10%). This applies both for portable and fixed systems, enabling 24/7 monitoring with fully unattended operation, while maintaining a method of instrument verification for metrological and legal purposes. Once deployed on the road, the RSD can monitor vehicle emissions from circulating traffic without any human intervention.

Analysis of car driving on the road with OPUS technology
The RSD can simultaneously measure emissions from vehicles traveling in two lanes without the need to place anything on the asphalt or above the lanes. The system identifies events where vehicles pass in parallel to mark these events as invalid.

SET UP

The portable deployment of the RSD offers maximum flexibility and easy operation. The system can be deployed in 10 minutes, left temporarily unattended and frequently moved to fresh sites.

As the RSD is fully battery powered, connected to the internet and do not require any modification to the road,
this setup allows versatile operation.

The RSD can be installed on a fixed site for 24/7 monitoring. The RSD modules are housed inside two main IP65 cabinets, deployed at both sides of the road, and anchored to the ground. The main cabinet is connected to an external power source, for continuous power supply .

The RSD can include a rain sensor which activates the closing of the cabinet if rain is detected. Door is opened again automatically after rain stops. The cabinets include a full temperature conditioning system.
