Opus has installed a fixed RSD in the heart of Madrid, at a critical transportation point in the Spanish capital. The new system is located on an access road to the M30, the main ring-road of Madrid and one of the most heavily trafficked roads in the country. The system measures vehicles traveling on this two-lane road 24/7, thus providing a new solution for continuous monitoring of urban traffic emissions. This device has been installed as part of the CRETA project, similarly as systems in Barcelona and Irún.
The system includes advanced 5G connectivity, thanks to the MASORANGE communications operator, so that it sends data in real time through a private network to an urban mobility platform managed by INDRA. The data is complemented by INDRA’s sensors that identify the occupancy of each vehicle, so that emission levels are reported not only for each vehicle, but also for each occupant transported. This solution goes one level beyond any known traffic management solution, monitoring in a novel way the real pollution at a level of detail never seen before.
